I need to lose weight.  I feel terrible.  Bloated and sluggish, my head feels like a cherry atop a mountain of Jell-O.  My clothes are inching closer to explosion when I suit up in the morning.  I felt so uncomfortable yesterday.  My pants cinched my shirt in a way that let my muffin top pop over my belt.  Luckily, I got a haircut two days ago that helped to distract people from the unsightly mess of my waist and torso.

I know how to lose weight.  I know how to keep it off.  Why am I not following these three simple steps?

  1. Consume less calories than you expend to create a caloric deficit requiring your body to burn fat reserves to maintain homeostasis.
  2. Exercise regularly to build muscle mass, burn fat, and increase your metabolism.
  3. Repeat.

I don't need a fancy diet.  I don't need a special exercise program.  I don't need a personal trainer or a personal chef.  I don't need to make any more excuses.  I don't want to put this off any longer.  I don't want to write this post again.  I don't want you to read this post again.

I do need to eat properly.  I do need to make time for exercise.  I do need to act now.  I want to be well.  I want to feel young.  I want to live a long, healthy life.

Do you have a Wii? I just got a Wii Fit for Christmas and I have to say that I’ve added 30-45 min per day or so of exercise and balance training that I did not do before. It helps you set a goal for loss over time and track it while adding calorie burning games and yoga training. It’s pretty sweet.

I have the Wii and the Wii Fit. I enjoy the game/console but feel that I would see bigger returns by going to a gym. I’m thinking I could go to the gym a few times a week and then Wii Fit on the off days. Either way, I’m not using the Wii Fit enough. I like the goal setting features. When I was doing it regularly, it was nice to see that line graph make a steady decline toward your next waypoint (or should that be weighpoint?).
